Already SpokenHaggai 1:2

The Time Is Not Come, They Said

This message is for A woman who has said the time is not right for six years while building everything else needs to see where her actual capacity has been going.

She has said the same sentence for six years and she has never heard herself say it.

Not this season.

It is always true when she says it. That is the thing about it. There was the year of the move, and then the year her father was ill, and then the two years the job doubled, and last year, which does not need explaining to anybody who was near her.

And in every one of those years the thing she is supposed to be doing, the thing that has been sitting there since 2020 and that three separate people have mentioned to her unprompted, has been postponed for reasons that would stand up in any court.

Here is what she has never noticed.

In those same six years she has run a house through a renovation, retrained, taken on two roles at work, redone the garden, organized her mother's care, and been on a rota that meets every second Tuesday.

None of that is wrong. All of it was needed.

But she has been saying she has no capacity while a great deal of capacity has gone somewhere, and she has never once put those two facts on the same page.

The Time Is Not Come, They Said

Read what they said and what they built

There is a line at the very start of Haggai, and it is a quotation of what ordinary, decent, busy people were saying.

Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD's house should be built.Haggai 1:2

The time is not come.

Notice that they are not scoffers. They are the people who came back from exile, who rebuilt an altar, who kept the feasts. They are the faithful remnant, and this is what the faithful remnant was saying.

And notice what the prophet does next. He does not argue about their theology of timing. He asks them to look at their own houses, which were panelled, and to consider their ways.

That is not an accusation of laziness. It is an observation about where the capacity actually went, put to people who genuinely believed they had none.

Your capacity has been going somewhere rather than being absent, and Haggai 1:2 puts that observation to faithful people rather than to scoffers. That is what the word actually does, not a charge I am bringing, and the Holy Spirit is the One who shows a busy woman her own six years without shaming her for them.

Every reason was a real reason

Now the plain thing, and both halves are true at once.

Your father was genuinely ill. The job did genuinely double. Last year genuinely happened, and if anybody tells you those were excuses they are being cruel and they are also wrong.

And a sentence that has been true six years running has become something other than a description. It has become a setting. Not this season stopped being a judgement you make about a particular year and became the default state, renewed annually without review, and nothing in your life is ever going to arrive quiet enough to overturn it.

There is no reckoning here. Nobody is adding up the six years against you. There is just a question about where the hours have actually gone, and you are the only person who can answer it, and you are allowed to answer it without contempt for yourself.

And nothing about six full years has ever put you in arrears with Him. Scripture asks His people to consider their ways and never once presents a bill, and the Holy Spirit is not standing over a tired woman's diary.

One hour, in the diary, first

Here is the practical piece, and it is one hour and it is not symbolic.

Put an hour in the diary this week for the thing itself. Before the other things claim it, not after.

Not a plan for the thing. Not research about the thing. An hour of the thing, whatever the smallest real version of it is.

And put it where you would put something that cannot be moved. You know exactly where that is in your week, because there are things like that already, and every one of them is a thing you decided at some point was not negotiable.

I am not going to tell you to clear the decks. You cannot, and telling you to is how people end up doing nothing at all and feeling worse. One hour, protected the way you protect the rota.

You are able to give this one real hour this week, and the hour was never missing from your life. Haggai 1:5 asks people to consider their ways rather than to produce more, and the Holy Spirit is the One who makes a diary honest in a woman who has been running for six years.

The breakthrough

So here is the turn, and it is this week, in the diary.

Look at where it went.

Not to convict yourself. You've been through a great deal and you've carried people, and none of that was wasted or wrong, and I will not have you finishing this article ashamed of six years of faithfulness in other directions.

Look because a sentence that renews itself every January is not a decision, and you have been treating it as one, and the thing from 2020 has been sitting there the whole time being mentioned by strangers.

You are able to open one hour today, and the six years were never a debt. Haggai 1:2 puts the question to faithful people who believed they had nothing spare, and the Holy Spirit is with a woman writing an hour into her own week.

Now the honest half. Nothing here promises the hour becomes a season, or that the thing from 2020 flourishes, and one hour may be all you can hold for a while. However He answers, the outcome is His and not ours to sell, and six demanding years are never evidence against you. What is settled is that the capacity was never actually absent.

Six years and one unopened thing. Go and put the hour in.

Declare this over yourself

Say them out loud. The standing to speak them is yours because you are in Christ and Christ is in you, and the authority is not your own: it is His, delegated and carried in His Name, and the Holy Spirit is the One who makes the word live in a busy woman's mouth. However He answers, and however far the hour gets, the outcome is His, and six hard years are never evidence against you.

  1. Sentence that says the time is not come, you are a season I keep renewing and you are not discernment. Haggai 1:2 records those exact words in the mouths of faithful people who had rebuilt an altar. You are not wisdom, and you are a setting nobody reviews.
  2. Shame that wants to audit six years, get out in the name of Jesus. You would have a woman who nursed her father and carried a household call all of it excuses, and God has never once presented anybody with a bill for a hard season. He asks me to consider my ways, which I can do standing up.
  3. Lord, You told them to consider their ways, and Scripture puts that to people who genuinely believed they had nothing spare. That question is answerable without contempt for myself, and the Holy Spirit is with me while I look at my own week. I am writing one real hour into the diary, and I am not moving it.

Why we ask you to say these out loud

The word this stands on
